Wednesday Daddy-Daughter Date Night Recap #6

You can always count on family…

This week has been a week of firsts for you.  You learned to crawl, sprouted  two teeth, and started to really spend a good amount of time entertaining yourself.  Every time I turn around you are amazing me with something new… life is so exciting to you and the world is so big.  I love experiencing the world through your eyes.

Yesterday we started our date night at Barnes and Noble by picking out a couple of books to add to your collection.  We choose one of my childhood favorites,  The Runaway Bunny, and we also purchased a more recent book called The Best Kind of Kiss.  We choose to read the latter and we learned a lot from reading the book.  We learned about all of the different types of kisses you will get… Like the “fluttery kiss from a butterfly” or that a “favorite kiss of all is a bristly, growly, daddy kiss.”  In all truth, I chose the book without looking at the contents.  Bow my head in shame, I hastily chose the book by it’s cover.  But in doing so… in this case… I received the best surprise.  You see, I have done the math.  Goal: I want to reach a million kisses by your 18th birthday.  That’s right… a million kisses.  And in order for me to reach that goal, I need to give you 152 kisses a day.  I know we have to apply the law of diminishing return to this… or in photography terms, the inverse square law.  Inevitably you are going to allow me less and less kisses every day as you get older, so right now you’re getting a very high number.

We were joined last night on our date by your grandparents, Nana and Abuelo.  Nana cooked dinner for us while I fed you and Abuelo does what he does best.  He made you happy, smile, and laugh.  You greeted both of them upon arrival with the best smile… the one you are really known for.    You showed Nana & Abuelo how you crawl and clap blocks together.   You played music on your piano for them.   You shared your joy for life with every single one of us.  That’s important.  Sharing that is.  I was glad to share my normal date night with them so they too could experience your “amazingness.”  Family means everything… they are always there to lift us up when we are down.  They protect us, provide for us, share with us, and teach us .  Your naturally joyful nature is a gift from God… and that’s what you are sharing with us.  I promise you, you can always count on family…
