Wednesday Daddy-Daughter Date Night Recap #3

I was late and all I can do is bow my head in shame.  I had the chance to put work down early and pick you up and I didn’t.  I got so involved in what I was doing that I completely lost track of time.  I swore when I looked at the clock I had an hour… not 15 minutes.  15 minutes means I was 15 minutes late picking you up from daycare.  Adding to the lateness, I didn’t have anything educational planned.  No trips to see the animals.  No bookstore for a new book like last week.  Not even an afternoon of touching and experiencing different textures like flour or mashed up avocado.

All we did is our normal Daddy-Daughter stuff.  We sat on the floor and played with your new interactive toy.  I made you listen to the Spanish lady, not the English.  You put the red ball in your mouth and I tried to teach you to put it in the hole with the yellow one.  I opened the alligators mouth and you closed it.  Again.  And again.  And again.  I spun the top and you stopped it.  With each activity you laughed at me and I made faces at you every time you did the opposite of me and we both acted like it was the greatest thing ever.  We read books…three of them.  We read Hugs, Jamberry, and Brown Bear.  Each time I tried to turn the page, you kept holding me back to really get a look at the images.  We did an impromptu mini photo shoot which you hammed up, as usual.  Everyone says you are the “happiest baby!” – I don’t know about that one, but you certainly make me feel like a proud daddy each time you let one of those smiles out.  I fed you and told you a story about Uncle Zack… man he would have thought the wold of you. He’s smiling down at you all the time.

Yup, it was just a normal day… but now that I think about it, I am not sure I would have wanted it any other way.  Just you and me spending time together, not distracted by anything else.  So maybe running late and not coming up with a plan was the best thing to happen to THIS Tuesday date night.Connecticut Portrait Photographer
